Nederland Police Reports - 25-05

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office had 225 calls for service in Nederland for the month of May. The calls for  service included 1 criminal mischiefs, 6 animal complaints, 3 alarms, 5 suspicious activity, 10 fire/medical assists, 6 trespassing complaints, 10 welfare checks, 1 child abuse, 3 disturbances, 1 burglary, and 2 domestic  violences, 1 DUI, 1 Auto Theft, 2 harassments, 1 reckless endangerment, 2 restraining order violations, and a  shots heard call. 

Included in the calls for service, deputies conducted approximately 98 traffic stops, responded to 16 assists,  1 DUI, and 3 property damage/injury accidents. Not including the accidents, deputies issued approximately 79 citations and 10 written warnings. 

Calls of Note:

 

2nd  degree assault-Strangulation / 3rd degree assault / Harassment / False Imprisonment / DV 

A 33 year old male and 35 year old female got into a physical argument, where the male choked the female until she  couldn’t breathe. The female was able to run to the landlord’s house to get help. She refused medical  treatment. A warrant was obtained and the male turned himself into the jail on the 19th. 

Traffic Accident 

Driver #1 pulled out in front of Driver #2 at an intersection, Driver #2 swerved to miss him and hit a pedestrian  sign. A careless ticket was issued.

2nd degree assault LEO / Disorderly Conduct / Obstruction / Resisting Arrest 

A 51 year old male was contacted for harassing and yelling at passersby. Deputies tried to give him a ride out of  town but while driving, he headbutted the patrol car cage partition. Deputies had to change destinations to  have paramedics transport to the hospital. While getting him into soft restraints he was able to spit and  punch a deputy in the face. He eventually was transported to jail for the above charges. 

Missing/ Suicidal Juveniles  

Four sixth-grade students were reported missing. Three of the four had recent suicidal ideation and  documented self-harm. There was concern about a potential suicide pact. They were eventually located, evaluated, and parents were contacted. 

Lost Property 

A 74 year old male lost his wallet approximately one week ago. Cards haven't been used, worried about his DL. Black  leather bifold with one rounded corner if found.  

Parking Complaint 

Deputies received a complaint about abandoned vehicles on the right of way of the town. Need to follow up but it appears it may be on private property. 

Stalking, Harassment 

A 25 year old male sent multiple text messages and made several phone calls to a couple that he worked for as a  nanny. He was contacted and told to leave the couple alone. The next morning, he responded to their  residence, pacing and texting them that they needed to talk to him, or he would show up at the kid's daycare  center and he would retaliate if they called the cops. The male did show up at the daycare like he said he  would. He was arrested and transported to jail.

Missing Juvenile 

A 13 year old female didn’t come home from school and was reported missing. She wandered around Nederland  for 5 hours then went to a friend’s house and hid in the closet. She went back to her father’s house. 

Informational 

BVSD security called us to check the school because a group of students were sleeping in the school but didn't  think there was a teacher there and claimed to have seen them driving in the field. Several students were  contacted who stated they were given permission to be inside to pull off a senior prank. Deputies consulted  with a BVSD security supervisor who said they were allowed to stay in the school. More follow up to be completed by the BVSD safety advisor. 

Found Property 

A male located a black magazine holder with two S&W magazines with ammunition on his property. 

Warrant / Drugs Arrest 

A 47 year old male was stopped for a traffic violation and found to have a Felony warrant out of Gilpin County for  1st Degree Trespass. A search of the male and his vehicle produced drug paraphernalia, 4 M30's, 3  Alprazolam, and nearly a gram of meth. Several other open containers throughout the car and a few sealed  shooters in his pockets. No indicia for DUI. Summonsed for drug and traffic charges and jailed for the warrant.  

Recovered Runaway Juvenile 

A 17 year old juvenile was contacted at a high school graduation and returned home. The parent requested information  from a co-responder for resources. 

Found Property 

A wallet was found at a business and turned in at the substation. The owner was contacted and the wallet was  returned.

Traffic/Warrant Arrest 

A 31 year old driver was stopped for going 54mph leaving Ned in the 25mph zone. Summonsed for speeding and  driving with a suspended license and arrested on a DV warrant out of Denver PD. 

Criminal Mischief 

Owner found graffiti on the side panels of a small structure on the roof of the train car. No cameras or suspect  leads. A spray paint can was found and collected for evidence. 

Burglary 

Suspect(s) entered a business and stole $10,000 in merchandise. Most of the stolen merchandise and a  cellphone were found behind the business near the creek. Fingerprints and DNA were taken from the phone.  A warrant was obtained to search the phone and identify a possible suspect. Detectives to complete follow  up.

  

Theft 

A homeowner reported his wife’s wedding ring was stolen from their house during the day. They had  numerous handymen and cleaners in the house. They had access to the master closet while looking for roof  leaks. It's unknown who took the ring. The ring is valued at $5,000. 

Reckless Driving 

A 46 year old driver was stopped for speeding 60 in a 25 and passing over a double yellow. Issued summons.  Approximately 2 hours later, the same driver was called in, driving recklessly down the canyon. Deputies were unable to make contact on that incident and the driver was ignoring deputy contact. A warrant was obtained for his arrest on a second reckless driving charge. 

Private Property Crash 

A driver struck a metal compost container at the Nederland Transfer Station while attempting to drop off  compost. Due to medical issues, he was not issued a citation. A DMV re-examination referral was submitted and a neighbor assisted with getting him and his vehicle home safely.

Domestic Disturbance 

An anonymous reporting party advised that a male and female were heard yelling and screaming from inside  their shared apartment. Further investigation confirmed it was a verbal argument, no physical violence.  

Fictitious Plates and Stickers 

A deputy noticed 3 BMWs with expired plates between 2-4 years on the right of way. Two plates are fictitious  and belonged to Mini Coopers. The third plate belonged on the vehicle but had a fictitious sticker on it.  Contacted the owner who was issued a summons. 

Fictitious Plates 

A plate was run on an RV which belonged to a GMC truck. The plate was taken for destruction.
