NEDERLAND — A special event at The Backdoor Theater on Thursday, August 13 celebrated the life and contributions of an Eagle County man with a special screening of the documentary film, The Casual Enormity of Adam Palmer.
The film features interviews from community members directly connected with Palmer, who died in an avalanche near Silverton in 2021.
The screening is part of a tour of the film across Colorado. The screening featured Geoff Grimmer, the film’s producer and the executive director of the Adam Palmer Sustainability Fund, and the film’s director, Todd Anders Johnson.
After the documentary, Grimmer hosted a Q&A panel featuring Nederland community members and their efforts in sustainability.
Featured in the panel were Nederland Sustainability Advisory Board member Eryka Thorley, Nederland Sustainibility Coordinator Cassidy Grady, and Wild Bear Nature Center founder Jill Dreves.
The Casual Enormity of Adam Palmer was presented by Risan Media and the Adam Palmer Sustainability Fund, the latter of which was founded to continue Palmer’s efforts in community sustainability.
In particular, the fund continues his efforts working towards the Town of Eagle’s goal for net-zero energy by 2030.
Also in attendance was Billy Giblin, former mayor of the Town of Nederland and current Trustee/Liaison to the Board of Zoning Adjustment. Grimmer brought him to the panel for his thoughts on the political aspects of community sustainability.
Audience members connected to the community story and the multi-faceted work of Palmer, embracing the film’s message of the importance of working together to make positive change, even if only locally.
