NEDERLAND — The Nederland Community Library transformed after hours on Saturday, October 10, 2026, as a murder mystery unfolded among its shelves.
The murder mystery, conceived by Kim Stedem and organized by the Nederland Community Library Foundation, served as a fundraiser for the library after cuts to funding.
Volunteers gave each attendee a character with individual objectives throughout the night. Each gathered information to find the person(s) responsible for six historical literary club murders (and hopefully survived the night).
Stedem and Library Director Elektra Greer had discussed the idea since Christmas, and preparation for the full event began over the summer. Stedem wrote the mystery and purchased the setpieces, and her husband Chris served as the night’s narrator.
The night included appetizers from Hunger Hitch Catering and cocktails from Gold Dirt Distillery—in fact, the night’s bartenders also received character sheets.
The library hosted a silent auction and raffle drawings throughout the night, with items provided by various supporters—Target, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods Market, Tinted Tanning, Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance, Boulder Bookstore, Stephen Graham Jones, and more..
The library also opened an online auction, keeping it open even after the festivities ended. All of the funds will support the library and the library foundation, allowing its story to continue writing more chapters for the community.
You can still head to the Nederland Library website and bid in the online auction (bit.ly/NCLsilentauction) until it closes on Saturday, October 17, at noon.
