CENTRAL CITY – The Easter Bunny moved indoors this year in Central City, due to cold, snowy weather. Normally held at William C. Russell Park, the family friendly event on Saturday, April 19, 2025, drew kids of all ages to hunt plastic eggs stuffed with candy.
“We’ve only done this once before that we brought it in the Elks Lodge. It’s a little chaotic, but we’ll make do.”
Fun was had by all at this beloved event celebrating its 40th year.
Ladies Auxiliary member Shirley Voorhies has participated in the event for the past 31 years! She explained that in the past, they have dyed real eggs, but because of egg prices, they opted for plastic versions instead. The sixty dozen or so eggs would have cost a whopping $800!
Members of the community hand-decorated about 400 plastic eggs on April 17. The candy for the event was sponsored by the Elks Lodge Ladies Auxiliary, the Peak to Peak Rotary, and volunteers. Lisa Boulter and Dostal Alley donated the eggs and the paint markers. High Heats ‘n Sweets donated candy.
Excited children with baskets in hand waited anxiously for the signal to hunt. Promptly at 11 a.m. the hunt was on!
Upstairs the smaller kids hunted eggs that were easily found, while the big kids found more well-hidden eggs on the main floor.
At the end of the hunt, the kids turned in their eggs for additional prizes including toys, kites, stuffed animals, and you guessed it….more candy.
