Will Fossil Fuel win out?

Posted

 Dear Editor,

The latest moves by the Trump administration would eliminate $30 billion in funding for clean energy. According to the website Mitch W/ Tipping Point, Energy Secretary Chris Wright is doing his best to eliminate this funding, which was passed by Congress under Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act.

Wright made his money as CEO of a major fracking company and has spent decades profiting from the same fossil fuel industries driving the climate crisis. Now he’s using his position to prop up oil and gas companies while undermining the transition to renewable energy.

Tipping Point states, “Instead of leading America forward, Wright is dragging us backward.  He’s rolled back clean energy programs, dismissed climate science, and called net-zero by 2050 a ‘colossal train wreck.’ Those aren’t the words of someone committed to innovation or American leadership—they’re the talking points of the fossil fuel lobby.”

These funds were Congressionally approved. It’s time for Congress  to show some spine and fight these unconstitutional acts. It’s long since time for the Supreme Court to stop allowing it as well. These funds were intended to fund many green energy projects across the country, including incentives for EVs, charging stations, solar and wind installations, and jobs in the clean energy field.

This stinks of political corruption. Our transactional president is granting favors to the fossil fuel industry in exchange for his widely publicized request for $1 billion for his campaign.  This is yet another example of why we need to reinstate limits on money that is flooding our government on all levels.

Climate change is real, and is a slow moving train wreck. Folks 20 years from now will be asking what we did to stop this. What will be our answer?
