Dear Editor,
The Belvidere Lecture Program welcomes Dr. Laura Jarnagin Pang for “Confederate Migration to Brazil: Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How?” on Saturday, October 10 at 4 p.m.
The lecture will take place upstairs at Monte Lobo, 131 Main Street, Central City. It is free and open to the public.
After the Civil War, some former Confederates migrated to Brazil. Pang will examine the people who went, the networks that connected them across national borders, and the broader historical forces behind their decisions. Her presentation draws on her book “A Confluence of Transatlantic Networks: Elites, Capitalism, and Confederate Migration to Brazil” (University of Alabama Press, 2008 and 2014).
Pang is Associate Professor Emerita in the Division of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at Colorado School of Mines. She taught history and international political economy and served as division director. She earned a doctorate in Brazilian History and an MA in Latin American Studies from Vanderbilt University, and a BA in International Affairs from the University of Colorado Boulder. She resides in Evergreen.
A $10 donation is requested. No donation is expected from students.
