Stop mail-in ballots? No thanks

Dear Editor,

Let me get this straight. The man who lost the 2020 election and then did everything he could to overturn those results, resisted the peaceful transfer of power, incited a mob to attack the Capital causing millions of dollars of damage and injuring over 140 Capital police, and who was impeached for this conduct, is now declaring that he will make the nation safer by eliminating mail-in ballots.

By the time this may get printed, the psychobabble by this man will have moved on to other outrages, such as firings at the Federal Reserve and the CDC, “pocket rescissions” of foreign aid monies that Congress has already approved, etc. But let us examine this one.

First, note that mail-in ballots in Colorado are immensely popular. According to “Colorado Inside Out,” 82% of Colorado voters like them. I am one. I like being able to sit down at the kitchen counter, pull out the blue book and all the election materials, and discuss my vote with my wife. An informed citizenry is the backbone of a democracy.

It must be noted that the president does not have the Constitutional authority to make this change.  And one must ask, if Trump can’t win the election because of mail in ballots, then how did he win in 2024?

Where did this whimsical tilt into election interference come from? It turns out that it was Putin who told Trump in the Alaska summit that mail in voting makes honest elections “impossible,” and that the 2020 election was “rigged” because of it.

Trump totally caved to Putin’s assertion, then spouted this as truth to none other than Fox News (aka Faux News) which then trumpeted this to the MAGA world.

Putin, the war criminal, who has been indicted by the International Court for bombing civilians, kidnapping 20,000 Ukrainian children and invading a sovereign country without provocation, is now advising our president? Trump then used this occasion to abandon the ceasefire he had touted, as well as the secondary sanctions he threatened to impose on Russia, all of which are positions favorable to Russia and likely to prolong this war.

How on earth do we trust anything this man says?
