Spring is springing

Posted

BLACK HAWK — Well, okay, it doesn’t seem that way today. Today we are watching a massive snowstorm move across our region. But May showers bring June flowers—right?

That doesn’t seem quite like the saying goes, but nothing this spring has seemed normal as far as weather in the Peak to Peak.

With this new abundance of moisture, I can’t help but be optimistic for the weekend. I’m super excited to be headed out to spend Mother’s Day with my mom. And some of my kids. And in a slightly warmer place (I hope). It will be a quick trip, just a few nights, several thousand miles, but a moment in time I can remember far into the future.

In town this weekend you’ll find the first Farmers Market in Nederland. I’m sad to miss that one, but happy to have amazing staff that will run our booth, sell your subscriptions, hand out tons of free publications, and interact with everyone we’ve missed since the market last October.

I’m personally also preparing for the Grand Opening at the Vault in Nederland.

Many of you know the amazing businesses that have sprouted up inside this beautifully renovated space. Just in case you are not aware, here is a list: Brightwood Music, 8236 Gear, InkHaus Tattoo, 8z Real Estate, Very Nice Brewing Company, and of course, Kitchen at The Vault.

I’ve had the pleasure of being in The Vault the last few weeks, listening to people checking out the space, asking great questions of what may be available at the businesses, and what the hours will be. While each business handles their own hours, I can assure you there will be many options, many days open, and tons of things to check out. As well, the outside space is going to be open sometime in the next few months.

For the newspaper, we are plugging along. We are knee deep in ad sales for the 2026 Visitor’s Guide. We have published and are circulating the Body Mind Spirit Guide. This week we are publishing our fourth edition of the Caribou Current, our arts and culture monthly publication.

We are holding steady with 15 full-time staff members and one part-time. And we still have over a dozen freelancers and several who submit complimentary content each month. We are looking for high school and college interns for summer and fall (email me at info@themountainear.com for info).

We are feeling strong, ready to burst into summer, and focused on what’s next.
