remember
there is something greater
up there beyond the buildings
where the pavement wanes
to pine needles
remember
there is something greater
can you feel it now
there at the edges
of everything
like an extra bit of breath
a gilded edge of the clouds
the faintest whisper
on the faintest wind
remember
there is something greater
than the work
than the government
than your sense of self
than all your traumas
than all your triumphs
remember
there is something greater
just beyond the hiking trail
just beyond that ridge
just beyond the last bend
of the rocky creek
there is something greater
that most have forgotten
the snake that made the world
or some sacred spirit like that
moving so slowly
through high alpine grasses
remember
there is something greater
always there
shaping the sun
don’t forget
