Dear Editor,
It's no surprise to anybody who has lived in these mountains that we are in a severe drought. The land is as crisp as democracy is being strangled.
It's the job of the county sheriffs to be instituting burn bans at this time. To protect the residents whose community investment and connections support the systems, and not appease the recreationalists endangering our homes with their careless campfires.
My spirit is weary of asking, is it safe to leave our home today? As I look at each of our five rescue dogs and three cats, I depart for a few hours to run for an appointment down below, worrying all the while that I will never see them alive again.
Institute a burn ban in Boulder County now. Stop accommodating the visitors and start taking care of the residents.
With respect,
Denise Boehler
