GOLD GATE CANYON - About 20 members, friends and relatives of the Golden Gate Canyon Grange made Holiday wreaths on December 7, 2024, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Grange. The Grange supplied native grass greens and other supplies to make a beautiful wreath for the annual event.
Those attending could bring their own wreath frame or buy one for $5. Grange Secretary Jayne Ruesch, who organized the event with Grange President Terri Costeldia, said that in the past folks have made some beautiful wreaths.
They often must beg, borrow and buy to come up with the materials for the wreaths. Ruesch and Coteldia spent several hours gathering the greens from their yards and that of their neighbors, John and Patti Neer.
“We did a little fire mitigation,” Ruesch smiled. The evergreen branches covered several tables at one side of the room.
Other materials available included glue, markers, stockings to be decorated, decals, small wreaths, wooden decorations and wire wreath frames.
Costeldia held up a couple of branches and said if you don’t want to make a complicated wreath, take a couple of branches and tie them together with a red bow to hang on your wall.
Allison and Matt Martonovich each made a wreath while their son Max sat at a table playing with the decorations and coloring. Their youngest, Jade, just hung with the parents.
Ashlyn Wilburn lives in Lakewood but is the daughter of Canyon residents the Meyers.
Her father is a firefighter for the Fire District. Rachel Meyer also attended.
Annie Taylor had most of her wreath complete except for decorations.
Effie Bachman, former District firefighter, found some Holiday ribbon for her wreath. She told The Mountain-Ear that she had been a firefighter until she got too old.
When happy participants left, they each had a wreath for their door or wall.
