GILPIN COUNTY - The 17th Gilpin County Democratic Party Fundraiser at the Gilpin County Arts Association Gallery in Central City on August 24, 2025, brought out a number of candidates running for 2026 statewide elections.
As well as providing food, conversation, and a silent auction, this annual end of summer event is an opportunity for candidates running for elected office to introduce themselves to the local electorate.
This year’s featured speakers included CD2 incumbent Representative Joe Neguse; Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser, running for the Democratic nomination for Governor; Boulder County DA Michael Dougherty running for state District Attorney; Jefferson County Clerk Amanda Gonzalez running for Secretary of State; and Jefferson County Treasurer Jerry DiTullio running for state Treasurer.
Colorado State Senator Dylan Roberts and State Representative Lesley Smith had hoped to attend, but were tied up at the special legislative session recently called by Governor Polis.
The candidates spoke about their qualifications, concerns, and aspirations for the state and for the nation. All the speakers encouraged participation in our elections and the need to step up to defend our democracy and the rule of law.
After the speeches, the candidates remained with the group for one-on-one conversations, answering questions, and enjoying the Gallery’s art.
The Peak to Peak Peoples’ Festival, scheduled for September 20, 2025, at the Community Center Barn, is being sponsored by the Gilpin County Democrats. This free event will feature live bands, food trucks, vendor booths, and beer and wine. The Gilpin Democrats hope to make the Peoples’ Festival a yearly event to bring people together.
