Gilpin Sheriff's Office honors citizens and staff

BLACK HAWK — The Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office recently hosted its annual Awards Ceremony, recognizing the dedication, service, and outstanding contributions of both community members and agency personnel.

The evening brought together staff, families, and community partners to celebrate those who go above and beyond to support public safety and strengthen the community.

Citizen Awards

Community members were recognized for their “selfless actions and commitment to the safety of others”:

Citizen Citation of Merit

• Winfield Greene – For rendering aid to two UTV crash victims suffering from hypothermia on Rollins Pass and helping guide emergency responders to the scene. 

• Nick Kauffman – For assisting neighbors and emergency responders during an extreme wind event by clearing debris and helping suppress a developing wildland fire.

 • Daniel Syrek – For aiding an individual suffering from hypothermia during severe winter conditions and contacting emergency services, likely saving a life.

Citizen Commendation

• Brittanie Dickson – For her continued leadership and service as President of No Animal Left Behind Search & Rescue, strengthening community partnerships. 

• Elizabeth Penrose – For assisting local and federal law enforcement in identifying and supporting the prosecution of individuals involved in mail theft, identity theft, and fraud.

• High Country Auxiliary – For their generous support in funding the Sheriff’s Office’s first drone program, enhancing operational capabilities and public safety.

Staff Recognition

In addition to citizen awards, members of the Sheriff’s Office were recognized for their service, professionalism, leadership, and commitment to excellence. Awards were presented for years of service milestones, lifesaving efforts, leadership recognition, and Employee of the Year.

The Sheriff’s Office extends its gratitude to community partners and supporters who helped make the event possible and continues to recognize the importance of honoring those who serve and protect Gilpin County.
