Attendees create their plates off the family-style buffet.
NEDERLAND — The atmosphere was warm and a deep sense of community filled the room as the fire danced outside and the sounds of jazz and funk floated over the crowd throughout Nederland General Store.
After 10 wonderful seasons of the Nederland Farmers Market, it was time to celebrate while raising money for the local non-profit organization through their bi-annual farm-to-table event.
Guests paid $60 for a full menu created by Chef Max Silveira, who currently cooks for a sorority at CU Boulder. The menu featured appetizers, salads, main courses and dessert, as well as one free glass of wine or beer. The food was sourced from local vendors that participate in the Nederland Farmers Market including Buck & Bloom, Sunburn Farms, and Buckner Family Ranch.
The food was served family style: attendees formed a line and made plates on their own, starting with the charcuterie board, a gorgeous display of produce, hummus, carrot soup samples, and bread and butter as well as mini cauliflower tostadas.
To follow, the hard-working staff set up the salads and main courses. For salads, there was a delicious fall kale salad sporting walnuts and pears, as well as a tomato dish covered in fresh basil and balsamic. The last of the tomatoes of the season!
The main characters of the show were the Buckner Family Ranch Pork Loin and the Butternut Squash Lasagna. The pork loin was cooked with pan jus, apples, and fennel chutney, giving it a sweet but robust flavor. Butternut squash bechamel made the lasagna the perfect comfort food, with fresh thyme and sage to round it out.
On the side were caramelized sweet potatoes, tangy roasted Brussel sprouts, and butter-braised leeks. For the finale, a delicious Ella Family Farms gluten-free and dairy-free apple cider glaze cake. Soft and decadent, this proved to be the perfect ending to a truly delicious seasonal fall meal.
Local trio Muleshoe kept the vibes chill throughout the three-hour dinner and even had folks dancing by the end of their set. Locals and visitors alike mingled and shared conversation over food and beverages both inside and out on the patio.
Upon entering the event, all patrons were given a raffle ticket. To end the night, festival organizer Daiza read off the winners, giving away gift cards to local businesses and next year’s market.
The market’s fundraising goal of $2,000 was reached and even surpassed and was a lovely way to spend time with the community while supporting local non-profit organizations and local businesses.
It’s always sad to say goodbye to the farmers market as winter approaches....but keep your eyes peeled next May for the beginning of the 2027 season as well as their annual farm-to-table events!
