GILPIN -- On August 9, 2025, the teams of the 2025 Gilpin County Parks and Recreation COED Adult Softball season competed in a double-elimination league tournament.
After a season of games every Monday and Wednesday from June 2 to August 6 (excepting June 30 and July 2), five teams – Unknown, Gillbillies, Snowcatz, Mountain Monkeys, and Senderz – played against each other at the Pete Gones Memorial Park to earn a spot at the top.
In the winners’ quarter-finals, Unknown earned its first victory against Snowcatz. Moving on to the winners’ semi-finals, Mountain Monkeys won their round against Senderz. Finally, Unknown moved forward to compete against Gillbillies, with the latter team winning the round.
The tournament shifted to the loser rounds, with each team competing to avoid a second and final elimination from the game. Ultimately, the Senderz won against Snowcatz, moved to the next round, and won against Unknown.
The players moved into the finals, with the winners competing against each other first. Gillbillies won against Mountain Monkeys, sending them to the losers’ final. However, they won the losers’ final against Senderz, qualifying for the grand finals.
In the grand finals, Mountain Monkeys won against the Gillbillies, tying both teams with two wins. To determine a final winner, the teams played a tiebreaker, and with a third victory, Gillbillies won the tournament.
While the teams competed to win, they commended each other throughout the rounds. Family members and friends cheered outside the memorial field as they watched the game, and everyone embraced a casual and fun environment during the tournament.
With everyone connecting on both sides of the fence, the community members joined together and made not just the tournament, but the entire gathering a team effort.
