GILPIN COUNTY — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and contractor Martin Marietta will begin resurfacing 6.6 miles of Colorado Highway 46 in Gilpin County starting on September 1, 2026. The resurfacing project is expected to be completed by October 31, 2026.
According to the CDOT Fact Sheet, work on resurfacing the highway will include milling and paving the highway to provide a safe, smooth driving surface; adding new lane striping and wayfinding signs; and cleaning culverts for improved storm drainage runoff.
Work will be done generally Monday through Friday during the daylight hours except for holidays.
Motorists can expect single lane closures during resurfacing operations, with up to 10-minute wait times. Wait times will be shortened during peak fall foliage season (September 15 to October 15).
Resurfacing operations will move from east to west starting at the Jefferson County line and ending at the intersection of Highways 46 and 119.
