COAL CREEK -- On Saturday, April 19, 2025, the Coal Creek Canyon Improvement Association (CCCIA) invited the community to hunt for Easter eggs behind the community center.
Families gathered in the center at noon, grabbing snacks, making arts and crafts at special stations, and preparing to hunt for eggs hidden on a hill behind the center.
Families took pictures with an Easter bunny mascot and two chicken mascots and were even able to pet three real chickens and a real rabbit in the center.
At 12:30 p.m., the families started the Easter egg hunt. The kids gathered beforehand, with a community member counting down from five before signaling go. On this cue, the kids rushed down the hill as if running a cross-country race.
Until 2 p.m., families searched in the snow for plastic eggs stuffed with candy provided by donations. Around 12 volunteers hand-stuffed and hid 1,000 eggs for the event, and they cleared and packed the snow to embrace the Colorado weather while also prioritizing safety.
The center awarded prize packs to hunters who found one of three golden eggs, with confirmation notes placed inside each egg to prevent any of the hunters from trying to double up.
The CCCIA has consistently embraced the snowy environment of their Easter egg hunts, and as demonstrated this year, that environment adds a unique twist to hiding eggs and allows families to celebrate Easter by playing in the snow.
