GILPIN COUNTY - The Clear Creek County Public Works Division issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) on June 19, 2025, for bids to provide design and construction services for outdoor shooting bays for the Clear Creek County Sport Shooting Park.

This is one of the final construction tasks to be completed before the shooting park can open.

A mandatory pre-submittal site visit is scheduled for July 8, 2025, so that potential bidders can tour the site and ask questions. The submittal due date is July 17, 2025. The winner of the contract will be notified on July 24, 2025, and the contract award will be made on August 5, 2025.

Substantial completion needs to be accomplished by November 15, 2025, with final acceptance no later than December 15, 2025.

The construction of each shooting bay entails building concrete pads, overhead coverings with acoustic mitigation, shooting tables, and shelving units where customers can put their gear. The shooting tables will be bolted to the concrete slab.

There will be a combination of shooting lanes for both pistols and rifles. Pistol lanes will be 25 yards long, while the rifle lanes will be 100 yards long for the majority and 75 yards for the remainder.

Land next to the pistol range is being set aside for an archery range in the future.

RFP bids are capped at $218,000. Clear Creek County commissioners approved the grant funding until a Colorado Parks and Wildlife grant of $250,000 is completed. The Clear Creek funds allow for construction to proceed during the summer and fall so that the facility is completed by the end of the year.

Total cost for the construction of the sport shooting park is $2.38 million.

There is another construction task, that of finishing the clubhouse, that will begin July 1, 2025, when it is connected to the Central Clear Creek Sanitation District. Furnishing the clubhouse with classroom seating, audio-visual equipment, and a snack bar will occur right before the opening of the shooting park.

Clear Creek County Special Projects/Water Resources Manager Lisa Leben wrote that the County is in discussions with the Clear Creek Metropolitan Recreation District regarding a lease for management and operations of the facility, but there is no agreement on a vendor at this time.

After the sport shooting park opens, the National Forest Service will implement sport shooting restrictions on select land in the national forests north of I-70 in Clear Creek and Gilpin counties.
