Dear Editor,
Due to lack of any substantial support, Bizarre Cat Bazaar 2025 is cancelled.
Bizarre Cat Bazaar (BCB) is a free, sober, family friendly, town business supporting, community gathering event; that offers family fun, goofy, feel good positive cat vibes; celebrating Nederland's historical, Honorary Mayor, Fred the Cat.
Fred was dearly beloved by the community, with many locals sharing personal cat stories. Bizarre Cat Bazaar 2023 was brought to you, and supported by Ron Mitchell and myself. It was a success! It was fun! People love this event! They love the history!
No, we didn't make money. Bizarre Cat Bazaar doesn't sell alcohol or charge for entry, two money makers where a festival may break even. BCB doesn't go door to door for local sponsors, as many local businesses are struggling and supporting others, like the Food pantry.
There is currently no Town organization that offers support for a Bizarre Cat Bazaar type of free community festival; the music series falls in a different category.
In days of past, Frozen Dead Guy Days was created by the now defunct Nederland Chamber to drive tourism for Town of Nederland businesses. It was a Chamber who created and supported Nederland Town festivals. Other funding options, like Grant funding, have all but disappeared given the current environment.
We're looking to return in 2026; and had a blast bringing smiles, love, music, and sober, family friendly community cat fun. Have funding ideas, contact me.
cheers,
deb, river & willow
