After the presentation, the Belvidere Foundation had a reception at the Lee Mansion on W. 1st High Street above the church. It was a chance to chat and reflect on the history of Gilpin County and how much it meant to so many diverse peoples.
Judge Jackson's family has owned property in Gilpin County for over 100 years. He told stories of his grandparents and parents and their love for the land around Lincoln Hills.
The Belvidere Foundation hosted a February 28 presentation by Judge Gary Jackson on Black history in Gilpin County. Jackson gave a slide presentation at Saint James Church on the history of Lincoln Hills and its importance as the only black-owned resort west of the Mississippi until the 1960s.
