Basin+Bend hosts inaugural Outdoor Recreation Festival

Recreation is any activity done for enjoyment when one is not working. Many recreational activities can be enjoyed indoors, but few things heighten our senses the way outdoor recreation does.

Two of the oldest recreational activities, hunting and fishing, are also two of the oldest human occupations. Hiking and swimming are the two oldest and simplest pleasures known to humans.

The beginning of urban civilization gave birth to picnicking and camping. As industrialism grew during the 19th century, the psychological tensions it triggered made it more necessary for people to crave escape from the city.

Americans began spending more holidays camping and lodging in the mountains near rivers and lakes by the turn of the twentieth century. Many families also built cabins in nearby forests for weekend getaways and vacations.

Thanks to the influence of avid hiking and other outdoor recreation and conservation groups, establishing national forests and parks gained momentum and became a part of daily outdoor recreation.

On Saturday, September 30, 2023, from 1 to 7 p.m., Black Hawk’s Basin+Bend hosted its first Outdoor Recreation Festival, celebrating the great outdoors and all the recreational opportunities our incredible mountains offer.

Outdoor-themed vendors, including Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Boxwood Gulch fly fishing company were among several vendors. Live music, beer, wine, artistic demonstrations, and more covered the sunlit cobblestone streets of Black Hawk’s HARD District this past weekend.

Between medical and scientific studies and firsthand accounts from outdoor enthusiasts, there’s no denying the multitude of benefits nature can have on us. Whether you’re a hiker, skier, sailor, runner, camper, gardener, or anything in between, there’s something everyone can enjoy from being outdoors.

People head outdoors for recreation because it’s the one place where you can find what you’re looking for, regardless of whether it’s peace, excitement, meditation, or guidance. The outdoors also provides opportunities to refresh our minds and recover our energy.

Basin+Bend’s Outdoor Recreational Festival closed the HARD District’s weekend celebration season in style. Check them out for your fishing and outdoor needs.
