Dear Editor,
The Alan Green Memorial Foundation (AGMF) is a nonprofit organization in Gilpin County. It was founded in 1983 by family and friends of Alan Green.
Alan’s parents were Ken and Lela Green, who lived in Gilpin County. Ken and Lela lost their only son Alan and his wife Judy in a commercial plane crash. The foundation was formed in Alan’s name and continues to support members of the Gilpin County community in many ways.
Over $275,000 in scholarships have been awarded to students in the past years. We are happy to announce that a new set of awards will be given this year.
Senior Scholarships
The AGMF is now accepting scholarship applications from current high school seniors. To be eligible for a scholarship, the student must be a resident of Gilpin County but may be home schooled or attending any high school (Gilpin County School, Nederland High School, Chinook West or any other high school).
Applications are accepted for all types of further education including attending trade school, certificate programs, university, or college. A scholarship is normally $2,000. The number of scholarships that will be dispersed is decided by the AGMF board members.
The applicant’s response to questions on the application is considered more important than the GPA or class standing. We are looking forward to reading your applications this year!
IZ Bar Leadership Award
Thanks to the AGMF family’s generosity, an additional “Leadership Award” will be given to one senior graduate. This scholarship is in the amount of $15,000 per year for 4 years, or a total of $60,000.
For this scholarship, we ask the senior to first complete the Senior Scholarship application in its entirety. There will then be additional questions about the applicant's thoughts about what makes a great leader as well as what leadership activities the applicant has done within the school or community. Again, GPA or class standing is not as significant as the answers to the questions.
Applications for both types of scholarships must be received as a PDF file no later than March 31, 2026, using the link. For more information and to find the applications, please visit the website at: alangreenmemorialfoundation.org. Thank you,
Kellie Bayne
