PEAK TO PEAK — The practice of creative art—pencils, crayons, chalk, oils or acrylic, even digital art—builds skills that aid in managing our daily life. These skills are important for self-reflection and expression. They also help us grow and learn how to cope with real-life situations.
Art improves mental and emotional health. The arts also assist with many tangible skills like motor and cognitive development, which then aid in problem-solving, planning, and perception. Imagine the endless benefits when a person begins to practice art when they are young! Some even say that children are born artists.
To inspire and honor the Peak to Peak region’s young artists, The Mountain-Ear is sponsoring the 2026 Youth Art Contest.
The contest promotes the artwork of our young people as we encourage young readers to engage with this, their community newspaper.
The Mountain-Ear is inviting all students from Kindergarten through 12th grade to participate.
Youth Art Contest categories include fine art, digital art, and photography. Prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners in each category, with $100 for first place, $75 second place, $50 third place. There will also be a “People’s Choice” winner, and numerous Honorable Mentions.
Online submissions have begun. Only one entry per student will be accepted, so choose wisely!
