Wildfire Partners rebates available to BoCo residents

Posted

BOULDER COUNTY - Nederland-area residents have been actively engaged in wildfire mitigation efforts for many years.

Along with the town and fire protection district, Boulder County has actively promoted mitigation in the region through our Wildfire Partners program, our Community Forestry Sort Yard located at 291 Ridge Road, and other programs.

Our goals are for all Nederland-area residents to mitigate their homes and properties, maintain their mitigation for as long as they live in the region, and create fire-adapted and -resilient communities. Nederland has made significant progress in the last 17 years, but there is still more work to do.

I am writing to encourage you to take action now. To provide you with a little extra incentive, Wildfire Partners is offering rebates of up to $500 for specific mitigation measures. If you received a rebate last year, you can apply again, but you must complete a different mitigation measure.

In 2024, 754 Boulder County residents received rebates totaling $327,583 for the time and money they spent on qualifying mitigation items. In 2025, we would love to provide 754 rebates to Nederland-area residents alone. Some of you may already be planning to do this work—why not get paid back for the time you are spending on specific mitigation measures?

Here is how it works:

The program is open to all Boulder County residents who own or rent a home in the county and who perform approved wildfire mitigation measures at their property.

The 2025 rebate program will continue to encourage the four eligible wildfire mitigation actions from the 2024 rebate program:

  • Fences are Fuses – Replace the five feet of fencing attached to your home with fire-resistant, noncombustible materials.

  • Junk Your Junipers – Remove highly flammable juniper shrubs from your landscape.

  • The First Five Feet – Replace the first five feet surrounding your home with noncombustible materials.

  • Vents for Defense – Install 1/8-inch mesh screens or upgrade to flame-resistant vents to block embers.

Additionally, two new wildfire mitigation actions will be eligible for rebates in 2025:

  • Cut the Clutter – Declutter under your deck to reduce the risk of ember ignition.

  • Protect Home Base – Cover the bottom 6 inches of house siding with noncombustible material.

All qualifying work and materials must be completed on properties located within Boulder County. The application deadline for the 2025 rebate program is October 10, 2025, and all work must be completed before October 31, 2025. For more details and to apply, visit wildfirepartners.org/rebate.

If the rebate program is not for you, there are many other ways you can participate in mitigation. Learn more at WildfirePartners.org
