GILPIN COUNTY - The Courthouse in Central City now has a larger drop box, located near the flagpole in front of the building, that will be ready to receive ballots for this November’s election. Paid for with a HAVA (Help America Vote Act) grant, this box was needed to ensure that all voters had the opportunity to drop their ballot in the box without concern that the box had become too full. The old ballot box will be repurposed as a drop box for the Motor Vehicle, Recording, Treasurer and Assessor Offices around the first of the year.
The Community Center also had a new drop box installed. The old drop box was too small for the usage it gets and a new, much bigger, ballot box was needed. This will allow the county to save time and money on having election workers make special trips to empty the drop box, and ensure that voters can safely deposit their ballot and have it drop into the box where reaching hands cannot touch it through the drop slot.
All drop boxes in the county are under 24/7 surveillance and are the most safe, secure and efficient way to return your voted ballot. Bipartisan teams of workers pick up ballots for processing on a regular schedule. While it is the quickest to drop your ballot in one of Gilpin County’s three drop boxes, you can also utilize any of the 418 official drop boxes in the state to drop your ballot in.
All ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Night, Tuesday, November 5. Postmarks do not count, so be sure to use the drop box most convenient for you!
