NEDERLAND - The Nederland Middle-Senior High School bands and orchestras held their End of the Year Concert on May 12, 2025. Band and orchestra directors are Liz Evans and Christine Mallery.
The 6th Grade Band and 6th Grade Orchestra played pieces impressive for their level of experience. The band was even improvising on a Duke Ellington number, “B-flat Jam Blues.”
The Middle Level Band and Orchestra played some delightful tunes, including one together written by Kenny Loggins, “Danger Zone.”
The high school orchestra took the stage next, opening with Queen's “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Next, they did an outstanding job playing “Spring,” from Antonio Vivaldi's “The Four Seasons,” arranged by Deborah Baker Monday.
Their final song was chosen by senior Lukey Mahorski-Bodley. It was “Entry of the Gladiators.”
The high school band came on with high energy tunes. First, they played “Let's Get Loud” and then the ragtime “Swamp Dog Rag.” The final song of the evening was Coldplay's “Viva la Vida.”
Other “finals” of this evening included the fact that this was the seniors’ last music concert, and it was the last band concert that Evans would be directing at Nederland Middle-Senior High School. After 40 years of directing band, choir, and theater she is retiring. We wish her an enjoyable retirement.
Thank you for all the years of music, Ms. Evans.
