"Many members of the Boulder County community have raised questions about the role local law enforcement plays in immigration enforcement. I’d like to take a moment to address these concerns on behalf of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office.
First and foremost, it’s important to clarify that immigration enforcement is a responsibility of the federal government, not the Sheriff’s Office. We do not enforce federal immigration laws, and we strictly adhere to state laws when it comes to interactions with I.C.E.
I also want to assure you that, regardless of your immigration status, we are here to serve everyone in our community. Our mission is to provide efficient and effective public safety services to all residents and visitors of Boulder County. If you are a victim or witness to a crime, your immigration status will never be a barrier for us to help and protect you.
If you commit a crime within Boulder County, we will hold you accountable. While we do not proactively share information with I.C.E. about individuals in the Boulder County Jail, we will release public information and respond to any inquiries.
Finally, I want to reaffirm that our office will not participate in immigration enforcement. Our focus remains on ensuring the safety and well-being of all those in Boulder County by enforcing state laws and responding to public safety needs within our jurisdiction."
