LAKEWOOD – Nederland Panther junior River LeMaster has always been a good all-around athlete. Receiving honors in basketball and being named Player of the Year in volleyball after the 2025-2026 season are proof of that. But it is in track and field that her talents rise to an even higher level.
Qualifying for the Colorado State Track and Field Championships last year in two events, she placed seventh in the Girls’ High Jump. In the 400 Meters, 300 Meter Hurdles, Triple Jump, and High Jump, LeMaster registered personal bests this season and holds school records in the Triple Jump and High Jump.
Invited to participate at the State Championships in Lakewood at Jeffco Stadium on May 15 and 16, by virtue of her strong performances, she was rated as the #4 seed in the 2A Girls’ 300 Meter Hurdles and #3 seed in the 2A Girls’ High Jump.
A good ranking by no means guarantees a medal among the best in Colorado and some competitors falter under the pressure. In the preliminaries of the 300 Meter Hurdles, LeMaster was off her best mark with a time of 48.31. It was good enough to advance to the finals where she shaved .22 seconds off her time of the previous day to secure a spot on the podium with a fourth-place finish.
A few hours earlier, LeMaster could be seen at the high jump pit. Clearing all of the heights cleanly without a single miss until going out at 5 feet, 4 inches, her jump of 5 feet, 2 inches, landed her on the podium for the second time to collect her third-place medal.
LeMaster delivered a remarkable performance that bodes well for her success next season.
