NEDERLAND -- On August 9 and 10, 2025, the Carousel of Happiness celebrated its Mary Wingate Days, allowing every rider free admission for the weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. The event honors Mary Quinlan Wingate, a lifelong summer resident of Nederland known for her kindness and generosity.
Among Wingate’s philanthropic acts, she worked with the Town of Nederland to create two undeveloped parks and donated a parcel of land above Barker Reservoir upon her death, the latter act providing access to National Forest land.
Wingate strongly supported the Carousel, and planning a family gathering to honor her memory in 2020, her daughter, Laurie, thought about tributes that would make her mother smile. Since then, the Wingate family has sponsored the free weekend, encouraging community in a town Wingate adored her whole life.
Regular admission to the Carousel of Happiness is $3 per ticket. To learn more about the non-profit organization, visit carouselfofhappiness.org.
