GILPIN COUNTY – Whether the sport was football, volleyball, or basketball, the Gilpin cheerleaders were faithfully there, pumping up the crowd and rooting for the Eagles. Three of those senior cheerleaders appeared at Senior Night on February 17 for Gilpin’s next to last home basketball games of the season.

Leo Simpson-Molochnick has a beaming smile that could motivate even the most casual fan. Her career as a cheerleader included both middle school and high school. Her coaches describe Simpson-Molochnick as “determined, focused, and precise.” She says that her favorite part of being a Gilpin cheerleader was “being able to work together as part of a team.”

Liz Madrigal-Garcia was also a member of the middle school and high school cheer squads. Her coaches note that she was “calm, hard-working, exacting, and joyful.” “I will look back happily on my days cheering for the Eagles,” said Madrigal-Garcia.

As a varsity cheerleader, Lilly Lintner was fearless and consistent. Her tenacious training showed in her precision and energy. Lintner’s favorite part of cheering was “meeting new people and forming strong, meaningful friendships with the girls of the team.”

From Head Coach Katie Yocom and Assistant Coach Cindy Upchurch: “We will miss each of you and all you have meant to us, your teammates, and the entire school. We wish you success, good health, safety, fun adventures, peace, and happiness as you move on with your lives.” Their dedication, technical prowess, and unwavering enthusiasm was greatly appreciated and will be remembered fondly.
