COAL CREEK CANYON - Santa Claus wasn’t too busy to visit the Coal Creek Canyon Improvement Association Hall on December 14, 2024 at noon. Santa arrived in a Coal Creek Canyon Fire District truck.
Penny Smith, dressed as Mrs. Santa Claus, was already in the hall. The event was sponsored by United Power.
After posing for photographs outside, Santa made his way into the hall and sat in his throne. Families and children then gathered around Santa as he held the kids on his lap to hear their Christmas requests.
Suzy Schemel organized the event. Other volunteers included Janice Batt, Kay Harden, and Cindy Kolinski. Tamara Waltemath, activity director for United Power, ran the crafts table.
Schemel said the CCCIA has organized this event since it debuted in 1951. “It’s a tradition,” she smiled. “And Santa always arrives in a fire truck,” Schemel added.
The Association provides chips and other snacks. They also offer coffee for the grownups and cocoa for everyone. Kids make their own cocoa and can top it with as much whipped cream as they like!
CCCIA also provided craft supplies for the kids, who could also write letters to Santa. Schemel said that Santa answers every one of the letters. “It’s better than a mall,” she noted with pride.
Upcoming events at the hall include Santa Paws and Pets on December 21, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Santa Paws is waiting to get his picture with your friendly pet.
The folks at the CCCIA ask that you please bring your own camera or phone to take the pictures. “Due to the nature of some of our pets, there will be no walk ins.” See the website for signup and time slots (https://coalcreekcanyon.org).
Open Mic will be on January 3; and on February 1, the 26th Annual Chilifest is right around the corner. “Join us and judge as we all enjoy the best chili sampling across the front range,” the CCCIA event schedule suggests.
