NEDERLAND — The Nederland High School Girls' Soccer Team faced off against the Estes Park Bobcats on March 23. The Bobcats went home on the Peak to Peak with a victory.
Longtime Panther soccer coach Alberto Gonzalez is not deterred or frustrated by his young team this season, "It will be a great soccer season because we have a great group of players and it will be a great moment to gain experience while we compete with other teams with more experience."
Gonzalez turns everything they do into moments of learning.
Perrine Breche is the team's four-year senior and Halle Peiffer is the other senior on the team. Three juniors join them to complete the upper classmen. The rest are sophomores and freshmen. This does not mean they lack talent. It means they do not have a lot of experience playing with each other and against other high school teams. This will be a season of growth and learning about each other.
"This year we have a lot of new people and I think it is a good time to prepare a new team," said Gonzalez.
"Last soccer season we lost 14 players and now is time to think about the future and see how the new players are learning and improving and also how the people with more experience inside the team are helping the team improve."
Always creating a positive environment for his team to learn soccer and teamwork skills, Gonzalez knows how to build a team. "I have plenty of confidence because this team competes very well in every game and the only thing we need is time."
The next home soccer game for the Panthers is on April 7 at 4 p.m. at the Nederland Middle-Senior High School (high school field). They will be playing William Smith High School.
Go Panthers!
