NEDERLAND — The four choirs that make up the Nederland Middle-Senior High School Choir Department performed their Winter Concert on January 8 after a power outage forced the concert to be postponed.
The concert featured The Acapellas (sixth grade choir), Crocodile Choir (seventh and eighth grade choir), Festival Singers (high school choir), and Loquations (select high school choir).
All the choirs joined together to open the concert with "Frozen Heart" from Disney's Frozen. The Loquations continued the concert with another song from Frozen "Vuelie." This tune is inspired by indigenous Saami and Scandinavian culture.
The Festival Singers entertained the audience with Michael Jackson's "Beat It!" and the seventh and eighth graders brought the Disney feel back with "How Far I'll Go" from Disney's Moana.
As the concert was originally scheduled for before the Winter Break, there were a couple holiday songs. The sixth graders sang "All I Want For Christmas" and the Loquations sang "Jingle Bells."
This concert shined an even brighter light on the musical talent of the students at NMSHS with the Talent Showcase. Nederland students Sandra and Skyler Dulude, Tyler Goodnow, Maisie Schaub, Asterion Nahapetian, Myla Yoh, Kyle King, and Lucy Cardinal shared their musical knowledge and gifts with the audience.
Tradition continued with the singing of "Carol of the Bells" to close out the concert. The beautiful harmonies filled the auditorium.
The NMSHS choirs are under the direction of Alia Brand.
