Nederland Sort Yard continued

BOULDER COUNTY — The Boulder County Commission approved extending the Nederland Sort Yard for another three years during a regular meeting on December 16, 2025, at the Boulder Courthouse.

All three commissioners attended, Marta Loachamin, chair, Claire Levy, and Ashley Stolzmann.

Sam Walker, Community Planning & Permitting, said Parks & Open Space Nederland Forestry Processing is seeking approval of an extension for the Nederland Sort Yard in this Three-Year Review. The discussion focused on extending the approved operations of the site for another three years.

Walker said the site was first approved in 2009 and has been approved every three years since. The applicants are asking for another three years, to be reviewed again in 2028.

Levy asked if this review is in the codes? Have there been any complaints about noise or traffic? Walker said he is not aware of any complaints, and he is here because the code requires a review every three years.

Stolzmann asked at what point should the sort yards do more, with all the high winds, If the board wanted to open more hours, what would they have to do? Walker said to work with Parks and Open Space.

In 2019, the review did include opening for more hours, but they have limited staff. Stolzmann said she needs to go to Parks and Open Space. The Board approved continuing to open the sort yard for three more years.
