Nederland school system and school experience

NEDERLAND - The small town that makes sure to make a priority of educating the town's youth. Even though you would not expect an abundance of schooling in Nederland, there surprisingly is! There are a total of three schools and a pre-school.

Nederland Middle-Senior High School: The school with the largest number of students, from 6th to 12th grade. Nederland Middle-Senior High School is in the Boulder Valley School District. The school is what you would expect from your average public high school experience. Yet, since there are approximately only 300 students overall in the school, compared to most public high schools it is a little unusual.

Students from the school say it provides a productive learning experience, and the community is good! Also, this school has plenty of extracurricular activities including basketball, soccer, track, mountain biking, and skiing.

Nederland Middle-Senior High School is located at 597 Highway 130, Nederland. Their phone number is 720-561-4900.

Chinook West High School: The alternative high school in Nederland. Grades 9 to 12 with some exceptions for 8, Chinook works with Boulder Valley School District and very closely with Nederland Middle-Senior High school, so they both have the same extracurricular activities.

This school is very small, with a drastically smaller student base compared to NMSHS. Fewer than 30 students attend Chinook West. The students say it is a unique, more hands-on approach to learning, with smaller class sizes and closer connections with staff and peers.

Chinook West is located at 151 East Street, Nederland. The phone number is 303-258-3821.

Nederland Elementary School: The only elementary school in the town of Nederland. This school is a part of the Boulder Valley School district, too. It goes from preschool to grade 5, offering a very safe and comfortable place for the students. The school stays connected with the community a lot.

For example, they have a mentorship program between the elementary school, Nederland Middle-Senior High School, and Chinook West High School. High school students act as mentors for 4th graders, seeing them at least twice a month. This helps the elementary school be a part of the community, especially since it's located on the outskirts of Nederland.

This school is located at 1 Sundown Trail, Nederland, and their phone number is 720-561-4800.

New Explorers Learning Center: A preschool branched out from TEENS, Inc. This preschool is for kids 2.5 through 7 years old. Located in a house, this preschool has a very cozy feel. It has a unique aspect and the kids love it there.

Many parents in the Nederland area recommend New Explorers Learning Center for local children. The preschool offers internships to local high schoolers so they can gain experience working in a school environment.

New Explorers is located at 391 W 1st Street, Nederland. Their phone number is 303-258-0390.

Despite the small size of Nederland, there is quite a variety of schools for the local youth, ranging from toddler to teenagers.
