GOLD HILL -- Sol Chase has been performing music since he was a child. First learning to play folk songs on the road in London, he has honed his sound throughout his life, gaining experience performing around the Colorado Rockies and leading bands in Austin, Texas.
Among his musical credits, he has recorded for Third Eye Blind, performed on stage with The California Honeydrops, and opened for groups such as Shinyribs and The Sweet Lillies. For most of his life, he’s developed his craft as a vocalist, mandolin player, and songwriter.
In 2022, Chase needed additional players for a bluegrass gig in Austin. The players he hired were Everett Wren, David Rabinowicz, and Taylor Turner.
When the group of multi-instrumentalists first played on stage together, they instantly connected, improvising and riffing additional ideas off of each other in what Chase refers to as “stage telepathy.”
The four players became Big Love Car Wash, a reference to what it felt like for Yonder Mountain String Band member Jeff Austin to connect with an audience.
The group has performed together since then, with Chase contributing bouzouki in addition to his mandolin and vocals, Rabinowicz contributing guitar, piano, and vocals, and Turner playing bass.
Wren plays a smattering of instruments, including fiddle, dobro, lap steel and acoustic guitar, and percussion, as well as contributing vocals. The group also occasionally hires drummer Sam Plaf for projects.
Their stage chemistry has developed into a songwriting chemistry, with the group releasing their debut album Daydream in June 2025. The band self-produced the album, recording it in November 2024 at Austin’s famed Arlyn Studios, a venue frequented in the past by musicians such as Willie Nelson and Gary Clark.
The group plays in many bands outside of Big Love Car Wash, and Chase lives in Galway, Ireland, for half of the year. This requires the group to meet in Zoom sessions and write on Google Docs frequently. Despite this, the four feel a very special momentum with this project, and all of them want to invest deeply in the project.
The band wants to share the joy, energy, and camaraderie they share as a band with as many live audience members as possible, and as their name suggests, they hope to wash the world with love in the pursuit of their dreams.
Big Love Car Wash is currently touring the country to support their debut album, including performing at Gold Hill Inn, located at 401 Main Street in Gold Hill, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, starting at 6 p.m. For more information about the band and to find their music, head to their website at biglovecarwash.com.
