NEDERLAND — In addition to the work the Mountain Forum for Peace (MFP) has done every year since 1985, awarding grants and hosting opportunities for the community to learn more about pursuing peace through environmental and social justice, they also host one of Nederland’s most anticipated and cherished events: their three-day annual Yard Sale.
As Spring cleaning sweeps the Peak to Peak area, residents are encouraged to recycle and upcycle those appliances that still operate but have been replaced by newer models, or those unique household items that have been collecting dust but may still pique the interest of a fellow connoisseur of curiosities.
The MFP Yard Sale provides the perfect crossroads for those looking to alleviate some clutter and those looking to add some new clutter to their lives, for decoration or for function, for pragmatism, or just for fun. The proceeds from each sale go to the MFP’s ongoing mission of peace.
On the morning of Friday, May 29, 2026, residents formed a line outside the Nederland Community Center, waiting for the doors to open. Some were there because they wanted first dibs on the many items stocked inside. Others wanted to browse before the best stuff was claimed—and there were also those excitedly hoping to claim something specific, like a birdhouse, or a crockpot big enough to feed an army.
There were used skis and bicycles, tables full of power tools, an entire hallway of kitchen and household items where you might find a ceramic mug that says “Sassy 60,” a bedazzled flask that reads “Crunk,” or a sculpture of a man made out of silverware by “Forked Up Art, LLC.”
And every year, in addition to all the toys and stuffed animals, used books and DVDs and beautiful, antique furniture, there’s always one item donated to the MFP Yard Sale that surpasses all the rest in either uniqueness, quality, or by sheer size—and that tradition certainly didn’t die this year, as someone had donated a 1988 Toyota 4Runner.
Those “in the know” were sure to visit—or return—to the sale on Sunday, as all items were listed at half price until 11:30 a.m. Then the doors are locked for a short hiatus, with eager shoppers readily queuing up outside. When those doors opened again, every item left inside the Nederland Community Center was being offered completely free!
A very special thank you from The Mountain-Ear to all those who helped to make the 2026 MFP Yard Sale such a great success—from those who donated and shopped, to all those dedicated MFP volunteers who continue to contribute to the worthy cause of peace in our lives.
