NEDERLAND — Hello everyone! Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed the holidays with family and friends.
These last few months in Nederland and our greater community have really tested our strength and made clear our connection. Early October we experienced the Caribou Village Shopping Center fire and all its aftermath. People continue to recover. Some at different stages than others. We are working with the State CDPHE and SAFEbuilt to get the go-ahead for Tebo Properties to remove the Caribou Village building remains. Tebo is ready.
We have had on and off cold weather, too much warm weather, crazy windstorms, and power outages. We will see more of these planned power outages as time goes on. Hopefully, with smoother response and power turned back on more quickly.
Reasonable anxieties and stressors people are feeling about lost businesses, lost jobs, figuring out what’s next. Concerns and impatience with the Caribou Village building cleanup. Stress of no power, including no heat, and no way to charge electronic devices and medical devices. It has been a rough few months.
Grateful to the many people who have supported us through this time. It has been powerful to receive this support and feel this connection with our Peak to Peak community and our greater community. Grateful to Town staff and the Community Center being available for the public to use to charge batteries, pick up internet, get in a workout, or watch a movie.
Here’s to a smoother 2026.
2025 has been a very busy year for the Town of Nederland.
Construction of the new TEENS, Inc/New Explorers Childcare Center progresses. We are in the design phase for another egress route out of the Big Springs neighborhood. We are seeking contractor bids to complete the Safer Main Streets project downtown.
The Comprehensive Plan was completed and adopted. We are working through completion of the Subarea Plan for the Downtown District.
There was a lot of road maintenance and stormwater drainage management throughout the summer months and improved plowing schedules this winter. There were significant water infrastructure improvements with hydrant repairs, new water meters, and sewer clearing.
Our Town Resilience project was selected by CU Boulder’s MENV program for a Capstone project to be completed by three graduate students.
New NDDA Bylaws and MOU were adopted. We are working to better align the BOT with the Advisory Boards and Planning Commission.
We have a new, more user-friendly Town website.
The Summer Concert Series was a great success.
The Eldora acquisition continues forward. It has been tedious, technical, and productive. This past Tuesday, January 6, 2026, we hit a major milestone when the BOT unanimously approved the Asset Purchase Agreement and the Transition Services Agreement. We also discussed the Bond Ordinance, and we are working hard to take action on that at our next BOT meeting on January 20, 2026.
We are scheduling Town Halls and Town Talks over the next few weeks for more public engagement and conversations about the Eldora acquisition. We are grateful for your patience and your support over the last six months.
See you at the Rail Jam this Saturday at Guercio Field!
I am grateful to Nederland and our community, and I am looking forward to an awesome 2026.
