Mary Geneva Ramstetter

Mary Geneva Ramstetter, aged 91, a long time Golden resident, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Wednesday, September 2.

She was one of four children born to Owen Francis and Geneva (Higley) Acers. Mary was born in Forest City, Missouri, in 1934 and moved with her family to Colorado in 1937. She graduated from Golden High School in 1952. In 1954, she married Robert Roy Bliss, and had two daughters, Barbara and Kim. She worked at the Colorado School of Mines, as the Humanities Department Secretary, for over 20 years. She married William O. Koch in 1965 and they enjoyed the ranch lifestyle in Golden Gate Canyon. She worked diligently with community groups to protect Golden Gate Canyon from over development, including the A35 initiative.

After William’s untimely passing in 1981, Mary married Charles William Ramstetter in 1983. She became an accomplished author and local historian. Together she and Charles researched, wrote and published "John Gregory Country," a local history book about the Place Names And History of Ralston Buttes Quadrangle. She was a long time member of the Golden Gate Grange and Golden Gate Canyon Columbine Ladies Club.

Mary is preceded in death by both her parents, brother Owen Francis Acers Jr., brother Stephen Owen Acers, and her husband, Charles Ramstetter. She is survived by her sister Ruth Ann Smith, sister-in-law Gerri Dewane Acers, daughters Barbara Bliss and Kim Ricards (Alex), grandchildren Gina, Mary, & Matthew Ricards, great-granddaughter Lillian-Rose Ricards, numerous nieces and nephews, step-children Julie and Jeff Ramstetter, step-grandson Michael Ramstetter (Nicole), and step-great grandchildren Cody O’ Brian and Emma Rose Ramstetter.

She had many friends and loved making new ones. Her loss will be felt by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.

The family will host a Celebration of Life get together to be announced at a later date.
