COAL CREEK CANYON — Love never really looks the same for everyone, but it does always tell a story. This Valentine’s Day, Kathy and Henry Bremers share theirs.

They have both lived in Boulder County for many years—Henry since 1968 and Kathy since 1979—and each moved to Coal Creek Canyon years ago—Henry 30 years ago and Kathy 13.

They have now been together for 19 years after meeting on a blind date in Nederland at a friend’s home for dinner.

Shockingly, Henry had been single for 16 years prior to meeting Kathy, and at the time she wasn’t looking for a partner. But when true love finds you, there’s no avoiding it!

Through their adventures—hiking, long Harley rides, delicious food, skiing, and traveling—their love and trust for each other grew.

Their key to a lasting relationship: “It's a blend of mutual understanding and a bit of magic. What works for us is mutual respect, kindness, laughter, and support for each other's aspirations through good times and challenging ones. Having empathy for your partner and yourself, as well as not expecting perfection from each other.”

The two of them continue to spread their ongoing love to their blended family, which includes eight children, 13 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren! Although that may seem chaotic to some, they shared how fortunate they feel to have so many people in their lives to love.

Deeply involved in their community, Kathy and Henry annually appear as Mr. and Mrs. Claus at community events in Nederland. Additionally, they continue schlepping Kathy's beautiful artwork here and there as needed.

In a small community that values connection, their story is a reminder that even in the smallest towns, the biggest bonds can grow.
