NEDERLAND - The building is the same, but the inside is different.
Attached to the Tin Shed, the familiar 2nd Street eatery is now Ned General, owned by Gold Hill residents Dwight DeBroux and Mike McNett.
McNett, former managing partner of the Gold Hill General Store and Pub had been approached by the retiring owners of Salto to see if he and DeBroux would be interested in purchasing the local institution.
The idea was, in McNett’s words, “building upon the legacy of community they had created.” He added, “We were honored by the invitation—it aligned perfectly with what we’re most passionate about: preserving local business and creating spaces that bring people together.”
With their backgrounds in food and beverage service, the two felt they had “the opportunity to bring that experience together and create a space that locals can continue to rely on and be proud of.”
Ned General is a café and bar that serves as a gathering place for the community. Their menu, whimsically divided into Breakfast / Not breakfast and Coffee / Not Coffee, provides basic but delicious sustenance for those seeking comfort and connection.
The space morphs into a cozy bar in the evenings, with craft beer and wine, and – soon – cocktails. There’s a fireplace inside for times when warmth is required, and a fire pit outdoors for those cool mountain evenings.
The two owners emphasize their connection to the authentic mountain community. “We’re not trying to be trendy or corporate—we’re creating a space that genuinely reflects the character of Nederland. Our team lives here, works here, and is invested in the long-term health of the community,” McNett stresses.
Being conjoined with Tin Shed inevitably makes the place “the perfect place to start or finish your adventure” – or to wait for the inevitable maintenance your bike or skis require. “Grab a coffee before you hit the trail or wind down with a beer after a day outside.”
