Well, it's time for the January Blues, a journey along the traditional Blues medium to relieve the stressed masses from whatever makes you blue.

Today we'll look at the blues style progression, and discuss how to use it in various forms. Let's begin with, "You have to suffer if you wanna sing the blues..." by David Bromburg

"Well, you can sing a happy song if you're glad

You can sing a protest song if you're mad

Ah, but if you wanna sing the blues

Then boy, you better learn how to lose

You've got to suffer if you wanna sing the blues"

So we must suffer the standard blues structure. A blues song in "C" goes something like this: (2/4 ) C F7 C C7 - F F7 C C7—G G7 C C7. Twelve bars of howling at the moon 'cause your baby left you, and you broke. Or she (he) spent all your bail money partying Saturday night.

The blues can also have a second part or chorus that goes: F Fm C C7—F E7 Am Am-F Fm C G7-D DM7 G G7. In this part, your dog died, or you so broke you ate her(him) dog and you still in prison for life, cause you made bad decisions your momma told you not to do.

To finish a blues song, repeat the first changes with a twist: If you get back on your feet, you never gonna do that again, Or you just gonna get a new: Girl, Boy, Dog, Momma or the blues just saw you comin' and the same thing will happen again.

And finally a verse about how you really didn't need to defend the nation's freedom by going to Greenland, what the hell were you thinking... it's so cold, your dog froze solid. Never vote for that asshole again.
