GOLDEN GATE CANYON - The Golden Gate Auxiliary of Colorado, Inc., hosted its Annual Pig Roast, and the Silent and Paddle Auctions, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Golden Gate Grange.
This event raises funds that help supply equipment, food, and other essential items for volunteer firefighters and EMTs, enabling them to respond effectively and safely to emergencies in the community.
The Silent Auction is popular, as is the fun Paddle Auction. Silent Auction items were lined up in the main room against one wall and on tables stretching throughout the kitchen room. Items ranged from a tire changing kit, a Gannet 4 tent, a heated dog bed, and grilling utensils.
Last year the auction raised $12,000. Suzanne Gentry has organized the silent auction since the year 2000.
Guests entered the main Grange door and purchased a plate for the food. Then they stood in line to enter the kitchen, where firefighters and volunteers dished out the meal of baked potatoes, salad, baked beans and roasted pig. DeeDee Ramstetter and Rachel Schaller dished out the beans and meat.
Seating was available in the main room and on porches in front and back.
Fire Chief Kyle Benson said the cost is $18 per plate, and they always sell out. They average about 220 plates per year. They used to roast the pig on site, but now they have a vendor do it.
Grange President Terri Costeldia said the volunteer firefighters have been doing the pig roast for two decades. Every nickel goes to the volunteer fire fighters.
The next event for the Grange will be the Golden Gate Grange Holiday Craft Fair, on Saturday, October 18, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A wide variety of crafts by talented local artists will be for sale.
Just a few of the items that will be offered are home décor, pottery, jewelry, shawls, hats, horseshoe art, welded metal art, purses, table runners, coasters, stained glass, lotions, soaps, toys and fabric dragons, jewelry, Western ware, Ramstetter history and fiction books, goat milk and soap, burnt wood crafts, and much more.
