GILPIN COUNTY – They had played 19 matches together, beginning on August 23 with a 3-0 victory over Lake County. Through all the practices, traveling to away games, and ups and downs, the girls have become a team.
The memories and bonds they formed will last a lifetime. Their match against Estes Park Bobcats on October 30 was to be the last time the seniors would play at home.
Jadie DiMauro, Adele Fisher, Maddy Sutton, and Elise Vincent were honored during a ceremony before the match for their years of hard work and dedication. In a way, the dozen yellow roses they each were presented symbolized how they had blossomed as athletes and individuals during that period.
Surrounded by friends and family, bittersweet as it may be, it was time to move on.
A closer match you’ll never witness. The Eagles dropped the first two sets by a score of 25-22 and 26-24. Typical of the way they scraped and clawed all season long, undaunted, they fought back to win the next two sets 25-21 and 25-14. The final and tie-breaking set of the match was decided 15-13, Bobcats.
Gilpin played again on November 1 in the Strasburg Volleyball Tournament in what was truly the seniors’ last time on the court together.
