NEDERLAND — The Nederland High School girls' soccer team hosted the Gilpin High School girls' soccer team on April 13 for their annual match-up. This year it was not snowing or raining, and the wind was not blowing to disturb speed. It was a great night for soccer game.
Gilpin High School came into this match with a record of one win, two loses, and two games that ended in ties. Nederland High came into this game with two wins, three losses, and one tie game.
After 80 minutes of play, Gilpin took home the victory, 5 - 0.
After the game Gilpin School Varsity Soccer Coach Sunny Vincent said, "The girls had a great game. They made sharp passes and played well with each other. Our defense was strong, stopping their offense from scoring opportunities."\
Scoring for the Eagles were Elise Vincent, Adele Fisher, and Riley Edwards. Gretchen Osteboe scored two goals.
Looking at the teams' lineups it was an interesting match up. The Eagles have 13 players, most of them returning players, and seven of them seniors. They have a wealth of experience this season.
The Panthers have a team dominated by underclassmen. It is a season of building and learning from the few juniors and seniors on the team.
Nederland's Head Soccer Coach Luis Gonzales commented, "It was a great game yesterday between two teams looking for a victory. Unfortunately for us we lost the game and congratulations to Gilpin because they're a great team with great players.
"As for us, I think we had a great game, especially in the second half. What we need to do is to continue to work and learn from these experiences. The team is improving every day and what we need to do now is keep going, believe, try our best, and be united. It will be a great season because we are in Ned and this group is the best!"
Good luck to the Panthers and the Eagles as each team has a few more games before the 2026 season comes to a close.
