GILPIN COUNTY DECLARES LOCAL DISASTER EMERGENCY AMID WINTER STORM

Posted

Cherokee Blake, Gilpin County.

Today Gilpin County is declaring a Local Disaster Emergency due to heavy amounts of snow and stranded motorists.

This declaration enables the County to activate certain response plans and makes the county eligible for funds and resources from the State that may become available to support the response to the current snowstorm.

Additionally, Gilpin County has determined that it is in the best interest of public safety to encourage residents and motorists to not travel. “This snowstorm has severely stretched the County’s resources,” stated County Manager Ray Rears. Sheriff Kevin Armstrong said “at this time, we are asking the public to stay home and off the roads. Our first priority is to keep our community members and visitors safe, and to ensure our first responders can do their jobs.”

Gilpin County thanks its first responders who have worked around the clock to help those in need over the past 24 hours. The County will provide updates as it sees fit.
