NEDERLAND - Mother’s Day ushered in warm weather and busy streets as Nederland became packed with residents and visitors who came to pamper their loved ones and enjoy the opening day of that most vibrant celebration of local culture: the Nederland Farmers Market.
On Sunday, May 11, 2025, those who ventured into town were greeted with the welcoming sight of pop-up tents and folding tables filling up the lot in between 1st and 2nd streets.
Before vendors could even finish bringing in their food and setting up their booths, bicycles and vehicles began circling the market, looking for a place to park, as they were itching to shop for all the locally sourced produce, meat, specialty foods, and handmade art and crafts that they’d been waiting for since last October.
While treated to the music of local legend Eric Stone, who played songs from his newest album, Living The Dream, attendees shopped at many of the favorite returning vendors, including Greg Marquez, who offered his original handmade toys; Wandering Blue Studios, with their distinctive pottery; and local artist Danielle Crouse, who delivered a live-painting experience for all to participate in.
As is the case every year, lines formed outside of many of Nederland Farmers Market’s food vendors. Those wanting chips, salsa, and breakfast burritos crowded Esmeralda’s Tamale House, while others looking for some healthy za’atar sought out Moussa Hamoosa, and those craving that subcontinental unique hearty and flavorful taste queued up at Susan’s Samosas.
Of course there were also options for those needing something sweet, as Peace Love and Cake offered sinful brownies, cookies, and moon pies; Kind Confections presented their sumptuous gluten free and vegan pastries; and The Bee Hugger Farm delivered amazing jarred honey of many different varieties.
And for those looking for a little more heat, Burning Bridges brought their exceptional lineup of pepper jelly, spicy mustard, and wickedly original hot sauces, which came in such impactful flavors as kiwi serrano. There was an infamous pineapple, mango, jalapeno blend appropriately named “Karen’s Wrath.”
This year’s market season is sponsored by The Caribou Room, Colorado Mortgage Collective, Crosscut, Elevated Impressions, Ellie’s Organic Za’atar, realtor Jessica Fitzer, Gold Dirt Distillery, High Performance Earthworks, Hub Ned, Knotted Root Brewing Company, The Mountain-Ear, Mountain Peoples Co-Op, Nederland General Store, Peak to Peak Plumbing and Hydronics, Tadasana Mountain Yoga, and others.
The Nederland Farmers Market is held on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every two weeks from May through to October. The market holds two festivals every year which feature even more vendors and food options, live music, and alcohol: The Party in the Peaks is scheduled for July 20, and Harvest Fest is scheduled for October 5. Both festivals are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
