COAL CREEK CANYON - When one door closes, another opens. The former Coal Creek Canyon K-8 school is now a charter school run by Jefferson Academy (JA). It currently serves students in elementary school and middle school, as well as before and after school programs. A Prospective Family Night is being hosted in order to introduce parents and students to the unique educational opportunities the school has to offer.
The Family Night will be held on November 20 starting at 6:30 p.m. Administration, teachers, and staff will be available to answer any questions parents might have about the school, their programs and/or the curriculum. The planned event is a way to reach out to the community and encourage more families to join.
One exciting opportunity JA offers families is Super Mondays. These Super Mondays are held every week, and combine the completely unprecedented concept of giving homeschool students and full-time charter students the ability to take elective classes together. The students and parents of JA have shown much enthusiasm regarding these Mondays. Taking ownership, with the freedom of personally choosing Monday’s elective classes, has been one of the many benefits the students have found particularly enjoyable.
Christa Westbrooke, vice principal of the school, hopes the Family Night will encourage new families to learn more about the school, visit, and see first hand the unique opportunities they have to offer, and consider joining. Another need that has been requested by families in the community is a local preschool. In that regard, a plan is in place for a preschool to be added next year. The ability to mold and tailor this school to the unique needs of our community is commendable.
To learn more about the local school, attend the Family Night on November 20. Or to view the website, go to Home | Jefferson Academy Coal Creek Canyon (jajags.com).
