No matter what your political stance may be, you probably agree that the 2024 election is one of the most consequential in recent history. And while, as a local newspaper, we tend to focus on local issues, we have to remember that we are also voting on much larger issues that will affect not only our community, but the American people as a whole.

There are a number of issues of great prominence in November’s election. These are the first that come to mind (not necessarily in order of importance):

• Housing

• Economy/Cost of living

• Immigration

• Climate/Natural Resources/Environment

• Democracy/Good Government

• Wars: Ukraine/Middle East/Iran?

At a glance, we are directly affected by four of these six issues. As a matter of fact, questions on housing, economy, environment and good governance are already going out to local candidates for office. We know these concerns are important to you, and it’s important to know how local candidates approach them.

But decisions made at the state and federal levels address not only the larger issues (immigration, war), but also affect these immediate, local issues. So we need to know how state, federal, and presidential candidates intend to deal with them. And, ultimately, our concerns about immigration and war will touch us as well.

What do YOU need to know about ALL candidates on ALL of these issues? And where do you get the information you need in order to make rational decisions as to how to vote?

And how can we help you get that information? Let us know what issues you would like to focus on – not limited to the six listed above – and we will try to bring you accurate, dispassionate, factual data. That’s our job, as YOUR local newspaper.
