PEAK TO PEAK - The snow guns have been set up and tested. The weather forecast is for cooler temperatures, and the yearly ski flicks are about to hit town. So Eldora Mountain Resort hosted another preseason event at the area on October 25, 2025, to celebrate being on the cusp of a new season with a little pre-ski party.
The event was called the “Pray for Snow” party, and was open to the public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It gave the public access to the resort services before opening day. Visitors could boogie to the Bluegrass music of Smorgasgrass up in the Timbers Tap House for the afternoon on the mountain.
Eldora plans on hosting live music in the Tap House throughout the winter. Smorgasgrass was a finalist at the 2022 Durango Bluegrass Meltdown, the 2024 WinterWonderGrass, and the 2025 UllrGrass band contests.
The retail and tune shops were open, with up to 60% discounts on clothing and equipment, and a $10 charge to wax and sharpen skis or boards. Seasonal rentals could also be picked up.
Eldora has also launched a donation match challenge for Nederland fire relief called “Ashes to Action.” Eldora will match donations made to their Play Forever Fund up to $20,000.
Director of Marketing Sam Bass said that donations have already exceeded $10,000, and the challenge originally scheduled to end on opening day has been extended to December.
The way that the fund is set up, it will distribute the donations to three non-profit organizations: the Nederland Food Pantry, Canyon Cares, and Emergency Family Assistance Association, all of which are positioned to help local residents impacted by the fire.
The fund website (https://godonate.akoyago.com/cfbc/fund/eldora-play-forever-fund) states that “through community generosity and Eldora’s matching commitment to provide local relief, the Play Forever Fund will help ensure that the heart of Nederland remains strong, united and resilient for years to come.”
Opening day is still a few weeks away but there is still time to buy season passes, get rentals for the kids, and do a few more gut busters and cardio sessions.
